Terms of Service

1. Who we are, and acceptance

Second Timeline (the “Service”) is operated by Tarisar L.L.C-FZ, a free-zone company registered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, at Meydan Grandstand, 6th floor, Meydan Road, Nad Al Sheba, Dubai, U.A.E. (“we”, “us”, the “Operator”). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. What the Service is

Second Timeline is a work of illustrated speculative fiction: alternate histories that never happened, grown from real historical hinges. Prose and images are generated by artificial-intelligence models under human direction. Nothing on the Service is a statement of real events, and nothing is professional, historical, legal, medical or financial advice. The notes labelled THE RECORD aim to describe real history accurately but are provided without warranty.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By using it you confirm that you meet this requirement.

4. Your account

Accounts use a one-time email sign-in link. You are responsible for the security of your email account and for activity under your account. Tell us promptly of any unauthorised use.

5. Charting: your submissions and the works we create

Your Submission. When you chart a timeline you give us a short prompt: a historical hinge and a change (your “Submission”). You retain ownership of your Submission. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store it and to use it to operate, provide, secure and improve the Service. Your Submission is never published as written; it is a private instruction to the chronicler.

The generated work. The road we return to you, its prose and its illustrations, is researched, written and drawn by our pipeline in our own editorial voice and style. As between you and us, the generated work is owned by the Operator. We grant you a broad, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to view, store, share by link, and print your generated works for your own personal, non-commercial use, with attribution to Second Timeline. Commercial use requires our prior written permission. Note that under the law of some jurisdictions, purely AI-generated output may not attract copyright; this clause governs the relationship between you and us regardless. Because the generated work is the Operator’s, we may keep it even after you close your account, in a form no longer linked to you, as part of the atlas.

Your promises. You confirm that you have the right to submit your Submission and that it does not infringe anyone’s rights or break any law. You must not submit anything prohibited under Section 6.

Moderation. We screen Submissions automatically and may decline or remove any Submission or generated work, before or after creation, at our discretion. A declined Submission is not charted and, where a charge would apply, is not charged.

Privacy of your creations. Your creations are private to your account by default. If you share a creation’s link, anyone holding that link can view it. You can delete a creation at any time.

6. Acceptable use

You must not use the Service to create, request or distribute content that:

You also must not misuse the Service: no automated scraping, no attempts to break security or rate limits, no resale of the Service.

7. Payments

Some features are paid. Prices and what they include are shown before you buy. Payments are processed by a PCI-compliant third-party payment processor; we do not store your card details. The Service uses one-time purchases of aether credit packs, which you spend on creations; there is no subscription. Where a paid creation fails to generate, we automatically return the aether it cost. Prices may include or exclude taxes as indicated at checkout. Consumers in the EU/EEA may have a statutory right to withdraw from a purchase of digital content; by asking us to begin generation immediately you agree to the loss of that right once generation has begun.

8. AI-generated content

All prose and images are produced by generative AI under human curation. They may contain errors, anachronisms or inaccuracies. Do not rely on them as fact. Treat the images as cinema and the stories as fiction; the real history is only ever what THE RECORD points to, and even that is provided without warranty.

9. Our intellectual property

The Service, including the atlas, the house stories, the software, the brand and all house content, is owned by the Operator and protected by law. These Terms grant you no rights in it except as expressly stated.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or that any creation will meet your expectations. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, and our total liability arising from the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months before the claim, or EUR 100. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything that cannot be limited by law.

12. Suspension, termination and deletion

You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. When you close your account we delete or de-identify your personal data; the works generated for you are owned by the Operator and may be retained afterwards, unlinked from you (see Section 5). We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, liability) survive termination.

13. Changes

We may update these Terms. We will post the new version with a new effective date and, where changes are material, take reasonable steps to notify you. Continued use after changes means you accept them.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates as applicable in the Emirate of Dubai, and disputes are subject to the courts of Dubai, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live (including, for EU/EEA consumers, the protections of your country of residence).

15. Contact

Questions about these Terms: [email protected]. You can also send word to the cartographers.
